Cherry Gardens was a run down Council Estate which became part of Southwark Borough Council Environmental Improvements programme to provide gardens for use by tenants.
Alpha Rail was appointed to supply and install 56 linear metres of decorative vertical bar railings which feature half rings and a round ball finial. On the Cherry Gardens project back in 1989, the railings were galvanized and powder coated black, and the gold ball painted in a contrasting gold finish.
The railings were mounted in between brick upright pillars and on top of a metre high wall top with two coping stones that angled upwards to form a point. This required bespoke fixings to ensure the stability of the metalwork.
Cherry Gardens is one of the projects Alpha Rail has chosen to feature as part of its 30th Anniversary showcase. The aim is to feature now and then pictures of past projects to highlight how well Alpha Rail metal railings have lived up to our promise of high quality and will endure the test of time.
Other projects include:-
- Whitehall Gardens, Westminster
- Crystal Palace Park, Bromley
- Camden Gardens, London
- Beaumont Road, London
- Raleigh Gardens, Lambeth
- Red Lion Square, Holborn
- St John’s Park, Isle of Dogs
