The material composition of pedestrian parapet is to a much more heavy-duty specification than standard pedestrian guardrail. This specification meets the loading requirements of BS7818 class 3C and is typically surface mounted using baseplates and a suitable chemical anchor.
Pedestrian parapet is supplied at a standard height of 1150mm, with other height options available for different settings. For example, when adjacent to a cycleway a height of 1400mm must be used where cyclists are sat higher up on their bike. An 1800mm high equestrian system is also available where required.
Compared to the standard pedestrian guardrail, where its main function would be to guide pedestrian guardrail to safer crossing points on highways. Pedestrian parapet guardrail is a restraint system where there may be a risk for a fall from height. This can include things such as the edge of a bridge, retaining wall or similar structures.
All pedestrian parapet is manufactured to suit site conditions – panels can be raked where there are gradients (i.e. ground not level) or radiused to suit curvature in the fence line. As with all Alpha Rail products, they are galvanised as standard to BS EN ISO 1461 and can be polyester powder coated in a RAL colour of your choice, to BS 6496:1984.
