Garston Park is a popular public park located in Garston, North Watford. The space offers great open space for dog walking, a playground for children as well as having a 6.4-hectare Local Nature Reserve containing woodland maintained by the local Council, along with various forms of wildlife.
Before the improvement project, the park had a lack of identity and park boundaries not being well defined, which enabled unwanted access by motor bikes on to the park. Due to this, Chartered Landscape Architects Southern Green were engaged by the client Watford Borough Council to address these issues. As part of this process, they specified various types of Alpha Rail products.
The successful contractor, idverde, then appointed Alpha Rail to carry out a full site survey and produce technical drawings for approval, and ultimately supply these materials. Our full-service approach means that our clients can be take comfort in the manufacture process that what they receive is exactly to their requirements, and they are consulted in the approval process prior to manufacture.
Alpha Rail supplied over 100 linear metres of 1.5m high vertical bar railings, over 100 linear metres of knee rail, bow top railings and multiple gates to secure the site. All metalwork supplied was hot dipped galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 as standard, followed by a polyester powder coated finish in Invisible Green.
The purpose of the new metalwork was to provide the park with security as well as a more defined boundary whilst also improving on the aesthetics of the park. The new railings have been well received in both giving the park more identity as well as preventing any unwanted access.
Simon Green, Director of Southern Green commented: “Alpha Rail was chosen as a supplier as they had supplied railings on an award-winning park in Watford a few years previous. The powder coated railings proved to be high quality and look new today, 5 years after installation. We therefore had no hesitation in specifying them again at Garston Park and the result has met the objectives of raising the profile of the park as well as preventing unwanted access by motor bikes”
