Types of Fence Coating

Types of Fence Coating

One of the most important aspects of a long-lasting and durable fence is its finish. Finishing the guardrail with the right coating product and in the right way is an essential part of the guardrail-manufacturing process. It will improve the overall look of the fence and create a smoother surface that will prolong the life of the railings.

In this blog post, we will discuss different types of coating for railings. This will help to guide you when choosing a guardrail for your project.

These are the four common fence coatings that manufacturers of railings use:

  • Powder coating
  • Galvanised finish
  • Marine finish

Powder Coating

Powder coating is paint in powder form. This type of paint is positively charged, which enables it to stick to the surface of the guardrail. First, the railing has to be properly cleaned with acid. After that, the surface can be coated with powder. This is done by using compressed air and a curing oven. During the process, the powder turns into skin that eventually cools down and becomes a hard finish.

Powder coating is thicker than traditional paints and looks appealing. The finish is high-quality and durable, which makes it a great option for areas that are often exposed to the sun and harsh weather conditions.

Galvanised finish

Galvanised finish is one of the best options for protecting guardrails against rust and corrosion. The galvanisation process consists of dipping the guardrail surface into molten zinc, and covering it completely. Galvanised finish will provide a barrier that protects the metal from the surrounding environment.

It is a highly effective method as the corrosion of zinc is a very slow process. Thus, it makes the guardrail long-lasting.

Marine finish

Marine finish is usually used where fence railings are exposed daily to the environment with water. This can include swimming pools and marine sites. This type of finish is the most suitable for in-water contact. Moreover, it is resistant to various weather conditions and airborne pollutants.
