Working with Alpha Rail: The Design and Development Process

Alpha Rail was established in 1985, starting out as a manufacturer of pedestrian guardrail products. Traveling up and down the UK visiting local authorities, the word was spread about Alpha Rail and our products, which quickly saw the company become one of the UK’s leading manufacturer of pedestrian guardrail products.

Shortly after, Alpha Rail began to diversify the product range, manufacturing metal railings, gates, and other bespoke metalwork. With almost 40 years of metal fabrication expertise, Alpha Rail is proud to have worked on some fantastic and high profile projects all around the country in many different sectors, such as retail and leisure, new build housing and housing regeneration projects, and public parks just to name a few.

Our Process

Our full-service approach supports you every step of the way, from initial enquiry through to project completion.

Enquiry and quotation

If you have a project requiring metal railings, gates, pedestrian guardrail and other bespoke metalwork, quotations can be obtained by contacting our sales team. Alpha Rail can offer technical advice to determine the best way forward, in order to achieve the desired result.

Site survey

Upon acceptance of an Alpha Rail quote, a full site survey can be carried out if required. Our expert technicians travel across the UK, conducting site surveys using industry standard total station measuring devices to determine final fence lines and ground levels. This enables the metalwork to fit exactly as needed, following any curves or gradients in the fence line.

Drawings and manufacture

When Alpha Rail has all the necessary information, our technical department will get to work producing CAD drawings of the product and how it will look when installed. You can rest assured that no manufacture will commence until the drawings have been approved.

Once approved, the drawings will move on to our shop floor where our team of fabricators will turn the drawings into a reality. All of our metalwork is manufactured in-house at our purpose-built premises in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire.

Finish of metalwork

Upon completion, all metalwork products are sent to be hot dip galvanised as standard, which gives the metalwork great anti-corrosion properties to ensure a long lifespan. With a galvanised finish, it is not uncommon to see metal railings have a life span in excess of 20 years. There is also an option available for polyester powder coating, which combines with the galvanising to act as another layer of protection. This is also a fantastic way to boost the appearance of your metalwork, allowing for things such as the incorporation of brand colours.

Installation

Our nationwide installation service is something that definitely sets us apart from others – the Alpha Rail team travel up and down the country installing our products to the highest standard.

How long does all this take?

Due to the bespoke nature of each project, there are no definitive lead times for our metalwork projects, however, lead times of 5-6 weeks are to be expected. For stock products such as the pedestrian guardrail range, these can be delivered within 7 days.
