Guardrail components are a set of materials that make up the entire guardrail system. The components are:
– Post
A post is the vertical component of a guardrail system and it is anchored to the ground. Posts must be strong enough to withstand an impact from a vehicle driving at freeway speeds. They also must be able to withstand wind and other poor weather conditions.
– Guardrail
The guardrail is the component that provides protection for pedestrians and prevents them from live traffic. Guardrails can be made of steel, aluminium or concrete; each material has its own strengths and weaknesses. Steel guardrails are more durable than aluminium but they are also heavier and more expensive than their counterparts.
Aluminium guardrails are lighter than steel but they do not last as long in poor weather conditions like rain or snowfall.
