The M2/SM2 pedestrian guardrail is one of our most popular standard guardrail products. It’s a recognisable guardrail, as it’s used along roadsides across most local authorities in the UK.
The M2/SM2 pedestrian guardrail is a simple unit panel design that’s similar to the M1 standard guardrail but comes with a vision gap that runs along the top. This increases visibility for both pedestrians and drivers in areas that are higher risk. The current British Standard for pedestrian guardrails in the UK is BS 7818:1995.

One basic requirement for all guardrails for pedestrian safety is that they consist of two horizontal rails and reach a height of at least 1050mm height above ground. The M2 pedestrian guardrail meets these requirements.

Pedestrian guardrails are categorised into classes based on their design, strength, and application areas. Class 2 is a normal duty pedestrian guardrail.
Both the M1/SM1 and M2/SM2 pedestrian guardrails are class 2 (normal duty) and meet all the current British Standards (BS 7818:1995). This makes them ideal for any roadside project, with the M2 model’s letterbox sight gap design adding that extra level of visibility.
