Project Overview

Bow Top railings have enabled a residential communal garden to become usable again after a long period of anti-social behaviour.

Allison Court is a centrally located residential estate in Reading, and as a result of being in such a busy part of town, the residents were constantly being faced with anti-social behaviour such as littering, waste from dog walkers, and trespassing into the communal areas. Residents and their children have been unable to use the garden, as the build up of waste was harmful and unfortunately included discarded needles and other drug paraphernalia.

Seeking to bring their communal garden back to how it is supposed to be, the estate’s resident directors, ACR Flat Management, set about finding a solution. The local authority planning permissions stipulated that the railings must be in black metal and have safety features present, they decided to go with bow top railings that could withstand the test of time on a main road and would not require ongoing maintenance.

Alpha Rail Solution

In total, Alpha Rail supplied 110 linear metres of 1 metre high bow top railings with three self-closing double leaf gates to match. These were the perfect fit for the estate, offering a level of security by acting as a deterrent towards trespassers and litterers alike, as well as being a safer option for young children playing in the garden.

The materials were hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 followed by a polyester powder coated finish in RAL 9005 Jet Black to comply with the conservation area regulations.

"The Alpha Rail team were remarkably helpful and patient with this process and were able to help with all my queries. The fitting itself took 2 weeks with the Alpha Rail installers on site. The end result is perfect and Alpha Rail ensured there was no rubbish left on site and kept me updated with the progress throughout. Overall 5/5 for service and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to you with any other requirements! Thank you."
