Alpha Rail were contacted by Kieran Flintoff, from Thomas Bow City Asphalt, who are a civil engineering contractors. They were currently working on a project for Nottingham City Council, to tear down the Broadmarsh shopping centre and car park, and start on a whole new regeneration project.
Thomas Bow were in charge of the whole new regeneration project for Broadmarsh. The plan was to create an open, vibrant and welcoming space in the city for people arriving by bus. It would be an area with outdoor seating, outdoor cafes and places for children to play. Our role in this project was to manufacture and install flat bar railings onto a retaining wall and to steps.
Here at Alpha Rail, we have a team of Bespoke Metalwork specialist technicians that support our clients to make the right choice for their project. We’re able to advise on design, size and other technical specifications. In this specific project, our approach was clear – Flat Bar Railings were the right product for the job.
The first thing we did after getting in contact with Thomas Bow is decide the type of railings they wanted and then we headed to conduct a full site survey. From this we were in contact with the architects of this job, Pick Everard and we supplied them technical drawings for this job.
During this project, we encountered significant challenges related to base plating the posts onto the granite blocks, the irregularity of each block meant that our panels had to be meticulously designed to accommodate these variations. Additionally, the balustrade, which followed the profile of the steps, allowed very little room for adjustment so we needed a precise fit which required careful planning and execution.
Finally we headed to the site to carefully supply and install the railings.
Thomas Bow were very pleased with the outcome of our involvement in the project, and Nottingham City Council were very happy with the overall look of there project and believed it brought a much brighter, more welcoming aesthetic to the town center.
