The Summit Centre is part of the miner’s welfare centre for the East Kirkby Miner’s Welfare Trust in Nottinghamshire. It has undergone a major transformation to improve and upgrade its facilities which were designed and implemented by local environmental regeneration charity, Groundwork Ashfield & Mansfield.
Part of the refurbishment project included the installation of new railings and gates. The Summit Centre had very specific requirements and appointed Alpha Rail to provide design assist services and to then manufacture and supply bespoke architectural metalwork.
The design they wanted included a peaked summit logo to symbolise the heritage and history of the local pit. Although the pit is now closed, it played a hugely important part in the community and the Summit Centre now provides a hub for a wide range of activities, including a fitness suite, play group, courses, such as painting classes, martial arts and a café/bar and meeting room facilities.
Alpha Rail supplied 11m of 1950mm high feature fencing, 70m of standard vertical bar railings and two gates. This included a site survey and installation by landscape contractor Crestra.
As well as supplying the metal railings and gates to meet the project’s strict timescales we were able to emphasise the summit logo using a factory applied powder coated paint finish in a shade of orange.
"The Summit Centre plays a hugely important part in our local community so we were delighted when a local company could meet our requirements. We chose railings and gates from Alpha Rail to provide protection to the building and provide a graphic demonstration of the history of the centre. The railings have a visually striking effect, which has had a great response from visitors."- Kay Appleby, Manager, The Summit Centre
