Alpha Rail was contacted by Ged Geraghty, the project manager at MPACT, a civil engineering company working on a significant project in Manchester involving the Metrolink. MPACT was contracted by Transport for Greater Manchester, the authority responsible for all roadwork and tram line projects in the city.
MPACT’s task was to construct six new tram stops along a 5.5km route through Trafford Industrial Park, enhancing connectivity across Greater Manchester. This route extends from Trafford Wharf to the shopping centre, with stops including Manchester United Football Club and the Imperial War Museum. Our role was to supply and install Pedestrian Parapet, Pedestrian Guardrail, railings, and handrails around the tram stations.
Here at Alpha Rail, we have a team of Bespoke Metalwork specialist technicians that support our clients to make the right choice for their project. We’re able to advise on design, size and other technical specifications. In this specific project, our approach was clear – Pedestrian Parapet was the main product we’d need for this job.
While we provided various products such as guardrails, handrails, and railings, the Pedestrian Parapet was the primary focus of this project. We supplied over a kilometre of Parapet for the tram lines. To ensure precision, we conducted numerous site surveys to guarantee that all products were manufactured correctly and fitted perfectly. We then proceeded with the manufacturing and installation of all our products for this project.
The project was a resounding success. It won several awards, including ‘Transport Project of the Year’ and ‘Overall Project of the Year,’ with Alpha Rail playing a significant role in this achievement. Additionally, the project was completed seven months ahead of schedule, earning Alpha Rail substantial recognition for our contribution.
