Ley Hill, located in South-West Birmingham has undergone a major regeneration and renewal programme which includes the modernisation of local community facilities.
The development of the former Ley Hill Estate will create a new sustainable neighbourhood consisting of 440 new homes and 100 renovated properties, including improvements in local infrastructure and greater use of public transport.
Alpha Rail has been involved in several regeneration schemes and our track-record within the social housing sector was a major factor in Fitzgerald Contractors selecting Alpha Rail as the sub-contractor to manufacture and supply fencing and vehicle barrier gates for the new development.
A close working relationship was established between Alpha Rail, Birmingham City Council’s Landscape Practice Group, Thomas Vale and Fitzgerald Contractors in order to agree the appropriate fencing and barrier gates.
We were appointed to manufacture and install 136m of bow top railings which was painted in a vibrant blue colour which helped to restore and extend an existing play area and promote a safe environment for children to play. We also installed 253l/m of black trip rail around a new village green and fitted a green vehicle-barrier gate to a council-owed car park which enhanced security access and matched the colour of the shutters on the Holloway Hall Community Centre windows. The vehicle-barrier not only provides a secure access point, but is visually unobtrusive and easy to operate.
"Ley Hill is a major regeneration scheme. It was important to not only build homes that people would want to live in, we also wanted to develop an attractive, public open space where families can spend their leisure time. The railings play an important part in providing a safe and secure boundary to the facilities so that they are aesthetically pleasing, safe to play within and appealing to visit"- Jonathan Webster, Principal Landscape Architect, Birmingham City Council Landscaping Practice Group
