Back in February you may have seen our article on Hatters’ Garden, formerly known as Meadow Street Gardens. The redevelopment project aims to transform the site into an ‘outdoor museum’ and recognise the hatting history of the town.
Before the closure of local factories, Atherstone once stood as the main supplier of hats across the world. For those looking to learn about the town’s heritage, the new garden will feature lots of information about the history of the area, along with a brass rubbing trail.
As lockdown restrictions ease across the country, many are now able to return back to work. Progress is once again being made on site at Atherstone, with the archway, railings and bollards being installed.
In the previous article, there was a selection of different design options that were shown to local residents. They were able to vote on their favourite design and choose which one would be used at the garden. The final design chosen actually encompasses a style of hat that was made in the factories.
