8 Tips For Playground Fencing Design

Why the right playground fencing design is important?

Playground fencing is one of the most important elements of a playground area. In order to keep children safe, project managers have to make sure that the design, layout, installation and inspection of railings as well as many other key aspects are executed properly.

Good playground fencing design should keep children within a safe zone and keep animals out of the playground. Moreover, kids should feel like the area its their own space where they can interact with each other and have fun.

Today, we will give you 8 tips on how to make sure that your playground fencing design can fulfil its role and make the children’s area very secure.

1. Make sure the fencing follows essential regulations

Playground areas should follow the British Standard 1176 regulations. Applying the playground standards is a good practice and protects project managers in the event of an accident claim. Thus, remember to use them during your decision-making.

2. Make sure there are no trap dangers within the fencing design

Remember, the pale spacing should have a maximum gap of 100mm to avoid anyone getting stuck between planes. This will reduce the risk of kids getting trap in the fence.

3. Invest in durable and high-quality fencing

Investing in high-quality fencing will reduce the risk of children harming themselves as well as the costs of maintenance. The more high-quality the fence is, the more long-lasting and durable it is. Remember, quality is very important. Plus it will be more difficult to vandalise it.

4. Gates should be a different colour than the rest of the fencing

Gates that have a different colour than other parts of fencing will enable you to easily find entrances and exits if needed. In the case of an emergency, it is crucial to be able to exit the playground area quickly and safely.

5. It is recommended to include more than one gate in your design

This will improve the flow of pedestrian traffic if one of the gates becomes blocked or damaged. Moreover, if an emergency happened, people will be able to leave the area much more quicker.

6. Make sure your gate does not close quicker than 5 seconds

The gates should not close quicker than 5 seconds as some people are not able to move that quickly. In order to make sure that everyone is welcome despite their ability, gates should close slowly so a person can safely enter the playground.

7. Choose finishes that will provide an extra layer of protection

Remember to choose finishes that will ensure the guardrail is high-quality and visually attractive. You can also pick bright colours to make the playground area more fun.

8. Choose a design that is safe

Fencing should be placed at a safe distance from any play equipment and it shouldn’t have any sharp and pointed parts. One of the most popular is bow-top playground fencing. This type of railing is also available at Alpha Rail.
